VISION STATEMENT:
Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's
preeminent organization for girls, with membership of more than
3.5 million girls and adults. In Girl Scouting-and its special girl-only
environment-girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls
together. Through the many enriching experiences provided in Girl
Scouting, they grow courageous and strong.

- Is one of 300 councils
chartered by Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. Girl Scouts of Otahki Council is
part of a worldwide family of girls and adults in 144 countries through
its membership in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
- Is a geographical area
including eleven counties: Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Madison, Perry,
Reynolds (Ellington), Scott, Stoddard (part of), and Wayne in Missouri;
Alexander, Pulaski, and Union in Illinois. Girl Scouts is open to all
girls, ages 5-17.
- Serves an average of 1
girl in every 6 girls living in the council jurisdiction.
- Serves girl membership
through a variety of vehicles including troops, interest groups,
program centers, and individual girl membership.
- Conducts membership
services and support via the Service Unit structure. There are 13
Service Units in the council, which are community based in nature.
- Is committed to a
membership, both girl and adult, that is reflective of the ethnic,
racial, religious, and social diversity of our area and to equal
opportunity.
- Is governed by a
volunteer Board of Directors comprised of adults skilled in finance,
properties, education and management. They develop goals and objectives
and make the financial decisions for the council. President: Jean
Bollinger.
- Conducts operations
through the Executive Director who manages the employed staff and
ensures smooth operations of council program. Executive Director:
Denise Stewart.
- Is funded by the United
Way of Southeast Missouri, product sales, program fees, grants from
foundations, and gifts from individuals. See Support

COUNCIL GOALS
2005-2008
Goal I -
Membership
Girl Scouts of Otahki Council
will accomplish membership growth through retention and recruitment,
provide competent adult leadership, which exemplifies the Girl Scout
movement, and reflects the diversity of the council jurisdiction.
Goal II -
Management
Girl Scouts of Otahki Council
will ensure long term organizational stability by establishing systems
for efficient corporate, fiscal, and personnel management.
Goal III -
Program
Girl Scouts of Otahki Council
will provide a contemporary program that is responsive to differing
needs and interests, which reinforces positive values and empowers
girls to reach their full potential.
Goal IV -
Properties
Girl Scouts of Otahki Council
will develop and implement a master plan for council-owned properties
ensuring compliance with all health and safety standards as well as the
changing needs of membership
